Mobile Phones

Mobile phones were meant to be a device which enables users to have the ease on telecommunication freely wherever they want. But in the late 90s, SMS (Short Message Service), a new technology was brought out. SMS is a transmission of short text message from mobile phones to mobile phones. This became a revolution making mobile phones to develop into a device that not only allows simple voice to voice telecommunication. Mobile phone now not only became an entertainment device (featuring functions such as camera, FM and MP3 players etc) but also allowing users to access through internet, personal digital assistant (PDA) functions and also having video conference using the latest 3G network. Someday, mobile phones might be able to replace computers.

The mobile phone market is a complex one at the moment - Mobile phone technology is progressing at an impressive rate, with handsets now coming with WAP (Mobile Internet), GPRS, Media Messaging, SMS texting, built-in cameras, organisers, mp3 players, java games, and built-in PC software. Then of course, there's video calling with 3G. Add to this, the choice of networks and tariffs, and it's easy to get lost.

Mobile Phone etiquette is really just common courtesy. Most people today have a Mobile phone. In fact, many people can't imagine how they ever got along without a portable phone. However, many people also complain about cell phone users. People complain about other people loudly discussing personal matters in public places. They complain when phones ring in movie theaters and concert halls. They complain about people driving too slow, and not paying attention to where they are going because they are talking on a cell phone. And they complain about people walking around talking to people who aren't there.

The 3G technology uses the network more effectively and makes the most of some inventive coding methods. Unlike the digital system, all users use all the frequencies all the time, separated only by codes. The network capacity is boosted, allowing users to be always online and to use their phone anywhere in the world. Today’s 3G mobiles can handle data at speeds up to 384 kbps under favourable conditions, but new technologies will soon push these rates even higher.
